Rome, GA - The Rome Braves defeated the Savannah Sand Gnats 6-3 Saturday night before a sell out crowd of 5,105 fans. Rome now goes to 2-1 on the season.Savannah scored in the first inning on an RBI single by Kevin Plawecki for the 1-0 lead. The Sand Gnats added two more runs in the fourth inning thanks to a two RBI double off the bat of Jeff Glenn for the 3-0 score.
Rome got on the hit parade in the fifth inning to take a 5-3 lead. Ronald Luna had an RBI single and Jose Peraza added a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-2 game. With two outs and two on base, Josh Elander cranked a three run home run over the left field wall giving Rome the 5-3 advantage. The Braves added another run in the sixth on an RBI single by Blake Brown for the 6-3 final. Rome starter Williams Perez picks up his first victory of the season while Savannah's Jake Kuebler is tagged with a loss. Shae Simmons gets his second save of the season.
