
New London County Schools Accept Sun Fitness Challenge

UNCASVILLE, C.T. (June 7, 2006) - Nine middle schools from New London County participated in the Connecticut Sun's Be Smart - Be Fit - Be Yourself Fitness Challenge, a two-week competition highlighting the importance of physical fitness.
Sixth grade students at each of the participating schools completed 10 fitness challenges - 100-yard dash, 50-yard dash, standing broad jump, running long jump, triple jump, situps, pushups, pull-ups, basketball drill and jump rope - submitting a total score at the conclusion of the exercise.
On Thursday, June 8th at 2:15 p.m., the Sun will be presenting a $3000 stipend to East Lyme Middle School for having the highest total score for the fitness challenge. All participating schools will receive six WNBA basketballs and two nets.
This fitness challenge was offered in conjunction with the WNBA's 10 Years of Caring initiative, and is one of the highlights of the league's 10th anniversary celebration. For more information on this or any other community relations program, please contact Tina James.
