Minnesota at San Antonio - Friday, June 9 at AT&T Center (7 p.m.)
Minnesota returns to the Lone Star State on June 9 to take on the San Antonio Silver Stars at the AT&T Center. Home court advantage has been important in this series. The Lynx have dropped their last three games in San Antonio, dating back to a 73-64 victory on Aug. 16, 2003, but have defeated the Silver Stars seven consecutive times at Target Center, giving them a 14-10 advantage in the series overall. The game will feature two of the leagues top rookies, Minnesota's Seimone Augustus and San Antonio's Sophia Young. Young, taken by the Silver Stars with the fourth overall pick, leads all rookies in rebounding while Augustus leads the WNBA in scoring.
AUGUSTUS HONORED
Rookie named WNBA Player of the Week
On Monday, Seimone Augustus of the Minnesota Lynx was named WNBA Player of the Week for games played Monday, May 29 through Sunday, June 4. Augustus became the sixth rookie ever to garner Player of the Week honors. Only Indiana Fever forward Tamika Catchings, who won it in her first week of WNBA action, won the award faster.
For the week, Augusts averaged 25.7 points while shooting 6-of-10 from three-point range and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. In her first five games as a pro, Augustus scored 116 points, the most ever in the WNBA in a player's first five games. Her 31-point effort against Indiana on June 2 was only the seventh 30+ scoring performance by a rookie in league history. The list is below.
33 -- Sue Bird, Seattle vs. Portland, Aug. 9, 2002
32 -- Tamika Catchings, Indiana vs. Orlando, Aug. 7, 2002
