New Jersey Jackals News Release

The New Jersey Jackals won its third extra-inning game of the season, plating two runs in the 10th inning to defeat the Ottawa Champions, 6-4, on Friday night.

In the top of the first, Jackals first baseman Dean Green hit his 12th home run of the year, a two-run shot to give the Jackals the early 2-0 lead.

The home run tied Rockland's third baseman Cody Regis for second in the Can-Am League.

Champions third baseman Jordan Caillouet grounded into a fielder's choice that cut the game to one at 2-1 in the home half of the frame.

Center fielder Chase Harris hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the second to score first baseman Vincent Guglietti to tie the game at two.

Green struck again the top of the fifth, hitting a go-ahead RBI single to score left fielder John Reuttiger.

Ottawa plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh on a solo home run by shortstop Daniel Bick and a Caillouet pop-out to give Ottawa the 4-3 lead.

Jackal third baseman Danny Canela hit a sacrifice fly to score second baseman Rony Cabrera in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 4-4.

This would force extra innings.

In the tenth, designated hitter Nolan Meadows scored on an error to break the tie and give New Jersey the 5-4 lead.

A wild pitch brought in catcher Kevin Torres to give the Jackals a 6-4 lead.

Jackals reliever Jose Velez earned the win after working a scoreless ninth inning and Mat Latos slammed the door in the home-half of the frame, striking out two in a scoreless frame to earn his first save of the season.

Riding a four game winning streak, the Jackals look to continue the momentum into game two on Saturday night.

First pitch is set for 7:05 P.M. from RCGT Park.
