New Faces Say Hello in Third Straight Win
August 3, 2021 - South Atlantic League (SAL)
Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Randy Vasquez, Nelson Alvarez, and Nick Ernst combined to hold the Brooklyn Cyclones to one hit as the Hudson Valley Renegades won, 5-0, on Tuesday night in Brooklyn.
The win -- the third in a row -- combined with Greensboro's loss to Hickory, improves the Gades' lead in the High-A East pennant race to two games.
Vasquez (2-0) worked the first six innings, allowing one hit -- a second-inning single to Edgardo Fermin -- two walks and ten strikeouts. Alvarez pitched in the seventh, allowing two walks, and Ernst went the rest of the way, walking two as well.
Offensively, new Renegades Austin Wells and Everson Pereira each doubled as part of an 11 hit attack. Wells' two-bagger in the seventh drove in a run and improved the lead to 4-0. The catcher was the 28th overall pick in the 2020 MLB draft.
The win was the 51st for the Renegades (51-28), marking the most regular-season victories in franchise history. Hudson Valley was a member of the short-season NY-Penn League until 2019. That league played 76 games and the Renegades won 50 in 1999.
The series continues on Wednesday. Thursday's Renegades-Cyclones game will be carried live on Z93 and online at hvrenegades.com with Rob Adams calling the first road broadcast since 2019. The game will mark the 100th anniversary of the first baseball broadcast.
Per the State of New York, the Renegades are now open at 100% capacity. Tickets continue to be a tremendous value starting as low as $6. Visit HVRenegades.com for ticket information and so much more.
