New England Revolution Youth Development Update: October 6, 2020

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - All four New England Revolution Academy teams continued the MLS Next season last Saturday, with the Under-19s, Under-17s, and Under-15s facing Beachside SC in Stamford, Conn., and the Under-14s taking on FC Boston Bolts in Newton, Mass. In addition, six current and former Revolution Academy players featured for Revolution II in a 4-0 win at Richmond Kickers on Saturday.

The U-19s and U-17s won their second consecutive matches, 4-2 and 2-1 respectively, while the U-15s secured their first victory of the season, 6-3. The win marked the first for U-15 Head Coach Shalrie Joseph with the Revolution Academy. Meanwhile, the U-14s fell 2-0 to FC Boston Bolts. Next weekend, the Under-14s will be the lone team in action, as they will face the Hartford Athletic U-14s on Saturday in Connecticut.

MLS NEXT Highlights:

- The U-19s secured a come-from-behind victory with strong performances by substitutes Jorge Garcia (2003 - Somerville, Mass.) and Aidan Farwell (2002 - Randolph, Mass.) who combined for the winning goal. Estevao Gouveia (2003 - Nashua, N.H.), Samuel White (2003 - Sterling, Mass.), and Cole Dewhurst (2003 - Lancaster, Mass.) also scored in the victory.

- Goalkeeper Nick Cardona (2003 - Boston, Mass.) played the second half for the U-19s, making four saves including one on a breakaway with the game tied, 2-2.

- Defender Jack Burkhardt (2005 - Sutton, Mass.) converted a penalty kick early in the second half to propel the U-17s past Beachside on Saturday. Forward Jason Zacarias (2004 - Billerica, Mass.) opened the scoring for the U-17s less than two minutes into the match with an assist from Malcolm Fry (2005 - Groton, Mass.)

- The Under-15s earned their first victory of the year, sparked by two goals and an assist from forward Angel Ortez (2006 - Revere, Mass.). Enzo Goncalves (2006 - Hyannis, Mass.) also added a pair of goals in the victory.

- In the U-15s' win, Jordi Tornberg Ayala (2006 - Revere, Mass.) factored in with a goal and an assist, while Alessandro Bacabac (2005 - Somers, Conn.) had two assists.

Revolution II Highlights:

- Defender Colby Quinones (2003 - Bedford, N.H.) made his 10th appearance of the season, starting and playing 85 minutes at right back. He finished the contest with five interceptions, three clearances, and won a penalty for New England in the first half.

- Midfielder Hikaru Fujiwara (2003 - Lexington, Mass.) made his seventh appearance, logging eight minutes off the bench in the victory.

- Homegrown Players and Academy graduates Nicolas Firmino (2001 - Somerville, Mass.) and Damian Rivera (2002 - Cranston, R.I.) each tallied goals in the victory. Firmino converted from the penalty spot for his team-high third score, and Rivera scoring his first professional goal.
