Orlando City SC News Release

The Streak Continues

The Lions come into Wednesday's match looking to extend their current Club-record unbeaten run to 10 matches following a 3-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls on Saturday. In that match, the 22nd different player took the field for City throughout this unbeaten streak with midfielder David Loera making his MLS debut off the bench in the 91st minute, while Antonio Carlos became the eighth different goal-scorer in the Lions' current league-best stretch, netting his first MLS goal in the fifth minute of second half stoppage time.

Another for The Big Man

Rookie forward Daryl Dike found the back of the net for the fourth time this season on Saturday in his first start since the Lions faced Chicago on Sept. 19. With the goal, Dike passed teammate Chris Mueller for second in Club history in goals scored by a Lions' MLS SuperDraft selection in their debut season. Selected fifth-overall at the 2020 SuperDraft, Dike has appeared in 10 matches for the Lions this year with eight starts, adding three assists to his four finishes this season.

The Money Man

Forward Chris Mueller continued his impressive form on Saturday night, registering his sixth assist of the season on Júnior Urso's 50th minute finish. Mueller leads the Lions in both goals and assists this season, with seven and six respectively, trailing only Toronto midfielder Alejandro Pozeulo, LAFC forward Diego Rossi and Seattle forward Jordan Morris in the league with his 13 goal contributions.

For Club & Country

Wednesday will mark the first match for the Lions without goalkeeper Pedro Gallese and midfielder Sebastián Méndez, who joined their respective national teams for upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification matches. Gallese has played every minute for the Lions this season, while Méndez has appeared in all but one match for City throughout its regular-season campaign. Upon return, Gallese and Méndez will complete all required MLS COVID-19 protocols - which includes quarantine and testing - before rejoining the team.

The Accountant

Defender Kyle Smith, dubbed "The Accountant" by the City faithful, had arguably the best performance of his young MLS career on Saturday, registering his first MLS goal contribution with the assist on Daryl Dike's 24th minute finish. On the defensive end, Smith led the team in tackles and recoveries with seven and 10 respectively, while adding two interceptions to his stat line to garner chants of his name from the home crowd. Smith has started the last three matches for the Lions, with 10 appearances on the season in total.

Last Time at Mercedes-Benz

In the Lions' last match in Atlanta, the visitors earned a 3-1 victory at Mercedes-Benz Stadium with three different members of the City squad finding the back of the net in the match on Aug. 29. Chris Mueller, Júnior Urso and Nani all scored for the Lions, with Urso's goal serving as his first as a Lion, while Benji Michel and Daryl Dike each garnered assists in the match to round out the goal contributions for City on the day.
