New England Revolution News Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio. - The New England Revolution (5-1-1; 16 pts.) visit the Columbus Crew (4-2-1; 13 pts.) on Saturday night at Lower.com Field for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff available to watch free on the Apple TV app in English and Spanish. Max Bretos and Brian Dunseth will have the call in English, with Francisco Rivera and Claudio Suarez providing commentary in Spanish. Saturday's match can also be heard on the radio on 98.5 The Sports Hub, with Brad Feldman and Charlie Davies calling the action, and on 1260 AM Nossa Radio USA in Portuguese.

Saturday's encounter, the 80th regular season meeting between the two MLS Original clubs, matches the second-place Revolution against the league's highest-scoring team through seven weeks in the Columbus Crew. Columbus, led by new Head Coach Wilfried Nancy, is off to a perfect 3-0-0 start at home to open the 2023 campaign. The Crew carry a three-game winning streak into Matchday 8, outscoring opponents 12-1 during that span. The two clubs have been evenly matched in recent years, battling to draws in each of their last four meetings. Both sides sport well-balanced attacks as Columbus' nine different goal scorers are most in the league, only one ahead of New England's eight different players to find the back of the net.

New England enters Matchday 8 following a 4-0 shutout win over CF Montreal last Saturday at Gillette Stadium. With the win, New England is off to its best seven-game start since 2005. The Revolution's four-goal outburst against Montreal gives the club 12 goals on the season, tied for fifth most in MLS. The club also ranks among the top 10 in goal differential (5th - 6) and shots on target (T-7th - 33). Four players tallied for the Revolution against Montreal in Dylan Borrero, Carles Gil, Bobby Wood, and Giacomo Vrioni - who opened his 2023 account with a second-half tally to seal New England's fifth win in seven games.

Gil, who earned another MLS Team of the Matchday selection, recorded his first goal-and-assist performance of the season. The 2021 MLS MVP has now reached the scoresheet in three straight games, with goals in back-to-back matches. Equally as in form, Gustavo Bou has now found the scoresheet with a goal or assist in three of the last four contests. The Argentinian striker is poised to make his 75th MLS regular season start. New England has produced six goals over the 188 minutes that Bou and Gil have played together this season.

Defensively, New England has now recorded four clean sheets, tied for third most in the league. With a shutout on Saturday, the Revolution will match the club's best-ever defensive start through eight games, set in 2013 (5 clean sheets, 6 goals allowed). Defenders Dave Romney, DeJuan Jones, and Brandon Bye have all played every minute of the young season, as has goalkeeper Djordje Petrović, who distributed his first MLS assist in the win over CF Montreal. Petrović logged six saves in his lone appearance against Columbus, a 0-0 draw at Lower.com Field on July 23, 2022.

Last weekend's match also featured the return of two veteran midfielders in Latif Blessing and Matt Polster. Blessing, who had missed the previous two matches with a minor leg injury, enters Saturday's match in Columbus on the verge of his 175th MLS regular season appearance.
