New England Revolution Loans Out Two Players

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution today announced that the club has loaned two players to other clubs for the remainder of the 2008 season. Goalkeeper Brad Knighton is being loaned to the Portland Timbers of the United Soccer Leagues' First Division, while forward Argenis Fernandez is being loaned to LD Alajuelense of Costa Rica's Primera División.

Per MLS and team policies, terms of the loan agreements were not released, but the Revolution can recall either player at any time if needed.

"Both players have bright futures in professional soccer, but they weren't getting sufficient playing time with us this season," Revolution Director of Soccer Michael Burns said. "Loaning Brad and Argenis out to other clubs will allow them to get the playing time and game experience they need to further develop."

Knighton, 23, is in his second year with the Revolution, having signed with the club as a free agent out of UNC-Wilmington prior to the 2007 season. He has not made an appearance with the Revs first team, but has a career mark of 2-4-0 in the MLS Reserve Division with a 1.33 goals against average.

Fernandez, 21, signed with the Revolution this past March after coming through the youth system of Santos in Costa Rica. He has made two appearances with Revs first team, making his MLS debut on April 12 against Colorado. He also has five appearances with the Revolution reserves where he has scored two goals.

The Revolution (9-4-3, 30 pts.) is currently the top overall team in Major League Soccer and returns to league action on Friday, July 4, when the club travels to Los Angeles for a key match-up against the Galaxy at The Home Depot Center at 10:30 p.m. ET. TV38 will televise the game live, while Cox 3 in Rhode Island will simulcast TV38's broadcast. The WEEI Radio Network will also carry the game.
