Edmonton Elks News Release
(EDMONTON) â Northlands Park and the Edmonton Eskimos are proud to announce the creation of Edmonton Spirit Marching Band, an elite marching band that will perform at some of Edmonton's biggest events, including the Klondike Days Parade and Edmonton Eskimos home games. This exciting new initiative gives Edmonton and area youth the chance to enhance their musical skills, make new friends and show off their talent.
"Edmonton Spirit Marching Band provides youth a terrific opportunity," said Barb Gordon, Northlands Park volunteer director. "We want to help them grow and be successful as musicians, performers and citizens through their participation in this band." Northlands Park and the Edmonton Eskimos, seeing the need to make the band community stronger for the future, formed the band to support talented youth and bring the marching band community together to achieve this goal.
Youth and their parents/guardians are invited to attend the upcoming recruitment drive today, Tuesday, May 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Northlands AgriCom, Salon 5. The band is open to youth ages 10 to 21 who can read and play music and perform in a brass, woodwind, percussion or colour guard position.
It is hoped that youth will fill all 80 available spots for the first band practice, which will be held Sunday, May 9, at Northlands Sportex. The band will mainly consist of current members of the existing four marching band organizations in the city (Edmonton Ambassadors, Edmonton Crusaders, Edmonton Sabers and Edmonton Strutters), but is open to all Edmonton and area youth.
Led by a team of Edmonton's finest marching band experts, including Todd Fenniak as the Band Director, these youth will represent Northlands Park, the Edmonton Eskimos and the City of Edmonton throughout the March to November band season.
