(Edmonton) The defending Grey Cup champion Edmonton Eskimos officially announced today the signing of defensive back Jeffrey Stanton.
In 47 career games at Tuskegee University, Stanton recorded 105 tackles 5 interceptions and 5 pass knock downs. Proving to be a threat on both sides of the ball, Stanton also returned 125 punts for 1337 yards (10.7 avg.) with 7 touchdowns and chalked up 43 kick-offs returns for 1078 yards (25.1 avg.) and 2 TD's. In 2002, Stanton was named as a First Team All-SIAC free-safety and return specialist.
In 2003, Stanton was presented with the Oliver M. Thompson Award which recognizes community service and is awarded by Washington D.C.'s renowned Pigskin Club. He also received a letter of salutation from U.S. President George W. Bush.
