Neville, Ulloa, Chapman Preview CF Montréal Clash
July 1, 2021 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Inter Miami CF News Release
Inter Miami is set to face off against CF Montréal on Saturday, July 3. In anticipation for their encounter, Head Coach Phil Neville is confident in the squad's attitude and mentality heading into Saturday's matchup.
"Saturday is another big game for us, where we have to perform, and if we perform, the results will look after itself."
Despite their 2-1 loss against Orlando City SC last weekend, Neville praised the team's performances over their latest matches.
"I've got to say, in the last couple games, we've been really fantastic in terms of our aggression, in terms of our pressing, in terms of the energy that we've got in that position."
Midfielder Victor Ulloa also had a positive outlook on the team's mentality and tactics following last week's matchup.
"I think that we take the positives out of the games that we've played. The group felt that we competed and did well, especially this game against Orlando. Always room for improvement, we know that we need to create more chances. I think we need to focus a little bit more, just on that last third, that last final pass -- we are lacking that last touch in order to put it in the back of the net. I think once we find that groove and once the ball bounces our way a little bit, we're going to start getting results," said Ulloa.
Midfielder Jay Chapman also believes that the Orlando game has provided fuel and motivation within the squad, a motivation they are certainly going to carry over to this weekend.
"After this Orlando game, we kind of saw especially in the first half, we saw this new desire from the team, we saw that we can go into games against some of the better teams in the league and really dictate and I think guys are excited about that and we have been just trying to hone in on the positive things that we did in the Orlando game to try and get a really important result this weekend," said Chapman.
Heading into their match against Montréal, Chapman expresses his ambitions for Inter Miami's approach.
"We want to be a tough team to break down and eventually we want to be a team that's good at pressing,"
Neville builds on that by discussing how working on the team's attitude and performance on the pitch will pave the way for a more clinical attack that will be on display this weekend.
"We're working on ways of getting our best players, more creative players, onto the pitch and to better positions. Ultimately, what we've worked on the last three or four weeks is for us to be harder to beat, more organized, more aggressive, and those are the first building blocks that we've put in place to go on and create more chances and be better in attack. I thought against Orlando we were better in the attack, we caused them problems, we kept the ball better, and I expect the same against Montréal," concluded Neville.
