Frederick Keys News Release
Potomac CF Francisco Plasencia's fourth inning infield single would be the lone hit registered by the Nationals as Keys pitchers Nate Nery and Pat Egan combined to shutout Potmac 2-0 in the series opener.
Nery was coming off of his toughest start of the season when he didn't last through the fourth inning on June 27th against Winston-Salem.
Tonight Nery was dominant, at one point retiring 12-of-13 batters during his six innings. Nery gave way to RHP Pat Egan who worked three hitless innings for his first Carolina League save.
It was a boost for the Keys who had its closer Luis Lebron promoted to Double-A Bowie earlier in the day.
The Keys did their damage in the third inning as CF Matt Angle walked and stole second base with one man retired. 2B Ryan Adams then doubled home Angle and scored himself a batter later when 3B Brandon Waring laced an RBI-single to left field.
Frederick continues its four-game series Friday, July 3rd at 7:05 p.m. in Potomac. Sean Gleason will take the hill for the Keys.
Frederick will return home Friday, July 10th facing Myrtle Beach at 7:00 p.m. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Keys Action Card Set presented by Extra Innings and fireworks will follow the game. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
