Kinston Indians News Release
One To Forget-Kinston blew a 5-2 lead heading into the 7th inning Wednesday vs. Myrtle Beach, eventually losing on an unearned run in the top of the 10th. The K-Tribe had plenty of chances to put the game away in the first nine innings however, as the Indians had a runner thrown out at the plate and stranded a runner at third with less than two outs two separate times, including a blown squeeze play in the bottom of the eighth with the score tied 5-5. Mixed signals cost the K-Tribe, as with Adam Davis at the plate, Lucas Montero bolted towards home on an outside pitch that was not offered at by Davis. Montero was caught in a run down and later tagged out. Kinston has still not won back-to-back games at home since May 8-9th vs. Myrtle Beach.
Extra Excruciating-The Indians are now 1-6 in extra-inning games, including two bonus baseball losses on their recent seven-game home stand to start the second half. Both of those losses were because of an unearned run crossing the plate in extra frames.
June Swoon-Kinston is glad to see the calendar turn to July as the Indians suffered through a rough month of June. The K-Tribe went just 7-18, the worst mark in the league, while hitting just .236 as a team with a 4.81 staff ERA. The only players who won't like to see the month end are Adam Davis, Eric Berger and Russell Young. Davis led the team with a .289 June batting average, and saw his average climb from .128 to start the month to .211 to end it. Berger went 3-2 with a 2.15 ERA in five starts while Young went 1-0 with a 2.19 ERA in four starts. Lonnie Chisenhall-although he hit just .239 for the month-did slug five homers and finish June with an 18-game errorless streak at third base.
For The Longest Time-Yesterday's game lasted three hours and 39 minutes, making every game of the four game series with Myrtle Beach three hours or longer. Game two of the series lasted three hours and 30 minutes, the longest nine-inning game of the season for Kinston. This comes on the heels of Saturday's 14-inning, four hour and 18 minute marathon that was the longest extra inning game for the K-Tribe this season. The first seven games of the second half have now averaged three hours and 23 minutes a contest.
Blue Rocked-The K-Tribe is 2-8 vs. Wilmington this season, including 0-3 at Frawley Stadium. Kinston has hit just .228 vs. the Blue Rocks this season and been outscored 46-20. Wilmington has hit .254 in 10 games for Kinston with a staff ERA of 1.47.
