Nelson named AFL's Offensive Player of the Week

SAN JOSE, Calif. (April 4, 2006) - San Jose SaberCats' rookie OS BEN NELSON was today named the Arena Football League's Offensive Player of the Week for his phenomenal performance in San Jose's win over Western Division leading Arizona on April 2.

Nelson totaled 203 receiving yards, the second-highest single game total in team history, and five touchdowns on 11 receptions in the SaberCats' 61-49 win. It was Nelson's fourth straight 100-yard receiving game and third with 10-or-more catches since becoming San Jose's starter five contests ago.

The former St. Cloud State standout leads the team with 745 receiving yards and ranks second with 51 catches and 13 touchdowns despite playing in just six games.

Nelson is the first SaberCat to win Offensive Player of the Week honors since Mark Grieb in Week 13 of the 2005 season and he is the second San Jose player to claim a league honor this year. WR/DB Charles Pauley was named Ironman of the Week following a win over Arizona in Week 3.

The SaberCats travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Storm this Friday, April 7 at 4:30 p.m. (PT) in search of their first winning streak this year. The game will be televised live on the Bay Area's TV20 and aired on the team's flagship radio station KNBR 1050.

San Jose returns home on Friday, April 14 to take on the Las Vegas Gladiators at 7:30 p.m. in HP Pavilion.
