AFL names Players of the Week

April 4, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release


NEW YORK - New York Dragons FB/LB BRUCE BLUE, San Jose SaberCats WR/LB BEN NELSON and Colorado Crush DS RASHAD FLOYD have been named Ironman, Offensive Player and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 10 of the 2006 season.

IRONMAN: Blue (6-2, 270, New Mexico), a rookie, posted 2.0 tackles, including a sack for a safety, and added two rushes for 28 yards, including two touchdowns, in New York's 48-24 win over Grand Rapids on Saturday.

OFFENSIVE: Nelson (6-3, 191, St. Cloud State), also a rookie, hauled in 11 receptions for 203 yards and five touchdowns in San Jose's 61-49 Western Division win over Arizona on Sunday. He became just the third player this year to record 200-or-more receiving yards joining Utah's SIAHA BURLEY (259 yards on 2/11 vs. New York) and Dallas' TERRILL SHAW (208 yards on 02/04 vs. Utah).

ADT DEFENSIVE: Floyd (6-0, 180, Portland State), who is in his fifth AFL season, posted 7.0 tackles, including 1 tackle-for-loss, and two interceptions in Colorado's 77-47 Central Division win over Nashville on Saturday.

Ironman of the Week candidates included: Austin's Sedrick Robinson, Colorado 's Willis Marshall, Dallas' Dialleo Burks, New York's Mike Horacek, Orlando' s Jerrian James, San Jose's James Roe and Tampa Bay's Lawrence Samuels.

Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: Austin's John Fitzgerald and Derrick Lewis, Colorado's John Dutton and Damian Harrell, Georgia's Chris Jackson and Matt Nagy, Orlando's Joey Hamilton and Tampa Bay's Shane Stafford.

ADT Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Austin's Donvetis Franklin, Georgia's Nate Coggins, Las Vegas' Steve Konopka, New York's William Holder, Orlando's Henry Taylor and Tampa Bay's Tremain Jones.
