Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

Harlingen, TX - Harlingen WhiteWings (20-61) starter Brock Nehls (1-3) struck out nine, including the last three hitters he faced, in a 5-2 loss to the San Angelo Colts (51-29) tonight at Harlingen Field.

Nehls went seven innings and threw 144 pitches, most by any WhiteWing this season. He scattered nine hits and four walks.

Tyrone Pendergrass used his speed to give the Colts an unearned run against Nehls in the first. Pendergrass led off with a single and stole second. He then stole third and went home when the throw went into leftfield.

Aaron Cone led off the second with a ground-rule double and went to third on a Jason Landreth single. One out later, Wyn Diggs reached on an error, allowing Cone to score, making it 2-0.

With one out in the third, John Anderson doubled. One out later, Andres Rodriguez hit an RBI-single. After a Cone single, Landreth hit an RBI-single to make it 4-0.

The WhiteWings got on the board against Frank James Jr. (6-5) in the bottom of the inning. Greg Sillivent led off with a seven-pitch walk. With two outs, Amadeo Zazueta hit his fourth home run of the season over the left-center field wall to make it 4-2.

That would be it against James, who went seven innings on three days of rest, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out four.

Diggs led off the sixth by walking. After a sacrifice bunt, Anderson hit a one-out RBI-triple to make it 5-2.

Luke Massetti pitched a scoreless ninth for his fourth save.

The WhiteWings and Colts play game two of this three-game series tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Miguel Sosa (1-0) will face right-hander Brian Henschel (10-3). It will be the eighth of nine-straight home games with free admission for all.
