Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

LAREDO, Texas- The Edinburg Coyotes clinched the fourth and final playoff spot with a 3-2 victory over the Laredo Broncos Tuesday night at Veterans Field. With the win the Coyotes extended their winning streak to eight in a row.

James Mondesir looked to clinch a playoff spot for the Coyotes but struggled with his command throughout the ball game. He battled for the team as he took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. Mondesir (2-2) got his second win of the year after he pitched seven innings, didn't allow a run and walked seven.

The Coyotes (41-40) wanted to get an early lead against the Broncos and that's exactly what they did. After Angelo Fermin started the first inning with a walk, he then stole second base to get into scoring position. After moving to third on a ground out to second base, Fermin came in to score an RBI ground out by Daryl Jones which gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead.

Amado German started the second inning with an infield single then he stole second base. After a ground out by Alex Entrekin, German decided to head to third. The throw from Bronco's first baseman Johnny Lopez was wild and that allowed German to score and extend the Coyotes' lead to 2-0.

The Broncos (37-48) made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth with a two run home run by Arnoldo Ponce, his seventh of the year, which made the score 3-2.

Luke Prihoda got his ninth save of the year after he gave up the two run home run. With the tying run at second, Prihoda got Anthony Bennett to fly out to right field for the final out of the game. The Coyotes and Broncos will continue their final series of the season Wednesday night at Veterans Field. Miguel Martinez (7-4) will match up against Mickey Callaway (1-1) in the second game of the series with the first pitch scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
