
Broncos Drop 4th Straight Game Against Coyotes

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos tried a late rally, but their playoff hopes are now over as they lost to the Edinburg Coyotes by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday night at Veterans Field. The Broncos continue at home for their final series at Veterans Field for the 2008 season as they face they Coyotes on Wednesday in the middle game of a 3 game series. The Coyotes starting off the scoring in the 1st inning. Angelo Fermin reached base on a fielding error by Ben Tinius. Fermin then stole 2nd and moved to 3rd on a groundout. A groundout by Daryl Jones knocked Fermin in and gave Edinburg the 1-0 lead.
They Coyotes would tack on a run in the 5th inning. With 1 out Amado German singled and then stole 2nd base. Alex Entrekin would ground out to Ben Tinius for the 2nd out. On the throw from Tinius, German tried going 3rd and the throw by Lopez got by Tinius allowing German to score. That would make the score 2-0.
Gregorio Martinez the starter for the Broncos, was not helped out by his defense in his 5 inning outing. He gave up 2 runs all unearned due to 4 errors by Laredo through the first 5 innings. Martinez gave up only 1 hit, walked 1 batter and struck out 5, but was in line for the loss. Maximo De La Cruz came into the game to pitch the 6th.
Thru the same 5 innings the Broncos offense could not take advantage of the Coyotes starter James Mondesir. Mondesir had walked 7 batters and also hit one batter, but still allowed no hits and no runs. The Broncos helped him out by hitting into 2 double plays as well.
The bullpen combination of Maximo De La Cruz and David Wasylak would keep Edinburg off the scoreboard, but David Watkins ran into some trouble in the 8th inning. Daryl Jones hit a lead off single and then went to 2nd on a single by Argelis Nunez. Both runners would then move up a base as they pulled off a double steal. Patrick Gaylord then hit a sacrifice fly scoring Jones. That made the Broncos down by 3 runs heading into their last at bat against Coyotes closer Luke Prihoda.
Dwayne White started off the inning with a walk and then scored on a 2 run home run by Arnoldo Ponce, his 7th of the season. Ivan Reyes then struck out for the 1st out. Josue Gonzalez then singled putting the tying run on base. Ben Tinius would then strike out for the 2nd out of the inning. Sean Gamble would then be hit by a pitch, moving Gonzalez to scoring position at 2nd base. Anthony Bennett would fly out to end the game, as the Broncos lost by a score of 3-2.
The Broncos scored 2 runs on 3 hits and committed 5 errors, while the Coyotes scored 3 runs on 3 hits and committed 1 error.
The Broncos now fall to 37-48 on the season. Laredo is now officially eliminated from the ULB playoffs. The Broncos will be back in action on Wednesday when the play their final home series in Laredo for the 2008 season as they play the Coyotes in game 2 of a 3 game set.
