Torrington Titans News Release
TORRINGTON, CT- The North Shore Navigators showed up unusually early at Fuessenich Park, nearly three hours before game time. Three hours after game time, they left Torrington with an 11-2 win.
The game was closer than the score indicated, as North Shore ran up the score late against some of the Titans' less experienced pitchers. The win went to Taso Stathopoulos (2-1), the loss to Taylor Luciani (Quinnipiac, 1-1), and the save to Thomas Lane. Mac Crispino from Fairfield University, the newest Titan, made his debut in the ninth when he pinch-hit for Jeremy Pena and flew out.
Torrington scored in the second inning when Cody Doyle (Sacred Heart)Â scored on a throwing error by North Shore catcher Michael Rizzitello. North Shore tied it in the top of the third when Tanner Bush scored on Richie Fecteau's single. Torrington went ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the third when Doyle singled in Dean Lockery (CCSU).
Undeterred, North Shore took a 3-2 lead in the fourth, as MJ Brown scored on Giovanni Dingcong's home run, just the third ball hit out of Fuessenich Park this season and the first since opening day. The Navigators tacked on two more in the sixth, when Brown scored on Rizzitello's double, followed by Rizzitello scoring when Doyle threw a pickoff attempt at third into left field.
North Shore exploded for six more runs in the ninth, batting around. Eleven Navigators came to the plate, and pinch hitter Mason Koppens batted twice. Derek Smith reached on an error, scoring Koppens. Rizzitello scored on an Anthony Rovasio (Hartford)Â wild pitch, and then Tanner Bush doubled home Smith and Dingcong. Bush would score on a Max Sheehan single, and Sheehan would score on a sac fly by Chad Martin. All six runs (four unearned) were charged to Rovasio.
Torrington hosts Wachusett tomorrow night at Fuessenich Park, first pitch at 7 PM.
