Torrington Titans News Release

TORRINGTON, CT- Three and two count, bases loaded, two outs in the bottom of the tenth. Joe Paparelli (Bryant), who provided the walk-off hit in the Titans' only extra-inning game all season, strides to the plate. The payoff pitch was just a bit outside and Paparelli walked, winning the game for the Titans, 5-4 at Fuessenich Park.

Ray Krieger (Bridgeport) got the win in relief for Torrington (7-6). Matthew Cronin took the loss for Wachusett (6-8).

For most of the game, starting pitchers dominated. Brett Susi (CCSU) pitched well, alloweing one unearned run and four hits while striking out six over his 6.1 inning of work before the pitch count got the best of him. Wachusett scored an unearned run in the fourth when Justin Silvestro singled in Kurtis White. Torrington would tie it in the bottom of the seventh when Joel Roman scored on Mike Conti's single.

Wachusett struck for three runs in the top of the eighth off Alex Fishberg. Eric Hassel scored on Alex Lefevre's single. Justin Brock then scored on a Fishberg wild pitch, and Lefevre came around to score on a Max DiTondo single.

Torrington cut the score to 4-2 in the bottom of the eighth when Mac Crispino (Fairfield), making his first start for the Titans, hit his first Titans hit to score Dean Lockery. Against Cronin in the ninth, Torrington tied the score at 4. First, Conti scored when a throw to third base after a wild pitch sailed into left field. Then, Paparelli scored the tying run on a very close play at the plate on a Lockery sacrifice fly.

Cronin got out of the ninth, but got into trouble in the tenth. Crispino walked, and Tim Budd bunted him to second. When Cody Doyle, pinch-hitting for Sean Blake, popped out to first, it seemed as if the inning might be over. Yet Conti walked and Nick Lamberti reached on an error by the second baseman, setting up Paparelli to walk in Crispino.

The Titans wrap up a three-game homestand tomorrow night against Brockton at 7 PM.
