Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Jose, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino dropped the series opener of a three-game set at San Jose on Friday at Municipal Stadium. Catcher Franklin Navarro had a three-hit game for the 66ers (52-54, 19-17) and Jo Adell drilled his 12th homer for Inland Empire but the Sixers fell to 2-3 against the Giants on the year.
San Jose (47-59, 13-23) scored a run off 66ers starter Erik Manoah (2-8) in the second for a 1-0 lead after Wander Franco led off the inning with a double and eventually came home on a double-play ball. Inland Empire tied the game in the top of the third when Jo Adell and Brandon Marsh each walked against Giants starter Carlos Sano (2-3). Sano's errant pick-off attempt and a sac fly from Franklin Torres brought in a run without a hit. The Giants immediately responded when Manoah hit Johneshwy Fargas and he stole second base, his league best 35th theft. He eventually came home on Dillon Dobson's infield single for a 2-1 lead. Inland Empire tied the game 2-2 in the top of the fifth when Adell launched his solo shot. Two pitches into the bottom of the frame however Fargas drilled a solo homer to take the lead back 3-2, it was his sixth of the year; the Giants added another run in the frame for a 4-2 advantage. Matt Winn drilled a two-run homer for the Giants the bottom of the eighth for insurance, his ninth of the year. Navarro's three-hit night for Inland Empire was his first triple-safety of the year. The Sixers were 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.
The series continues Saturday at San Jose at 6:00 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com.
