Rancho Rips Modesto to Complete 3-Game Sweep

?Modesto, CA - Ben Holmes got his first win of the year, firing five scoreless innings in Rancho's 10-0 pasting of the Modesto Nuts on Sunday night at John Thurman Field.

Gavin Lux and Omar Estevez each had three RBIs, as Rancho completed their three-game sweep of the Nuts, winning their fourth straight overall to finish their road trip with an impressive 5-1 mark.

The game was scoreless through three innings, until the Quakes sent eight men to the plate and put up a five-spot. Jeren Kendall doubled home Connor Wong with the game's first run, giving Rancho a 1-0 lead. With two outs, both Lux and Estevez collected hits, with each driving in two to make it 5-0 and chase starter Reggie McClain (3-9).

Holmes (1-0) departed after five innings, scattering just two hits and a walk, before giving way to Parker Curry.

The Quakes put the game out of reach in the sixth, enjoying their second five-run inning. Stevie Berman, Estevez, Cody Thomas and Wong all delivered run-scoring hits in the inning, building the Rancho lead to double-digits at 10-0.

Curry went one scoreless inning, before Jason Richman and Michael Boyle finished it off to earn Rancho's league-best 12th shutout of the year and second of the road trip.

The Quakes (64-44, 29-9) improve to 20 games over .500 for the first time this year and finish their season-long series with Modesto at 5-5, splitting the ten-game series.

After a day off on Monday, the Quakes will send Max Gamboa (0-1) to the mound on Tuesday, as they open up a series against the Lake Elsinore Storm at LoanMart Field. The Storm will go with right-hander Reggie Lawson (6-4) in the opener.
