Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SAN ANTONIO, TX - The San Antonio Missions scored four runs in the fifth to break open a 1-1 tie, and tacked on three more en route to an 8-3 win over the Naturals that completed a three-game sweep of the defending Texas League Champions. With the score tied at one, Sawyer Carroll walked to start the fifth and moved to third on a single by Ali Solis. Blake Tekotte followed and worked a walk to load the bases. Beamer Weems followed with a sacrifice fly to score Carroll, and Jaff Decker walked to re-load the bases.
Naturals' starter Heath Rollins (0-1) then hit rehabbing major leaguer Kyle Blanks with a pitch to force in the Missions' third run. Rollins was then lifted in favor of reliever Mario Santiago, who was greeted immediately by James Darnell, who turned Santiago's first pitch into a two-run single to put San Antonio up 5-1.
The Naturals got two of those runs back in the sixth off an RBI single from Jamie Romak and a second run which came in on a double play groundout by Tim Smith.
Nick Van Stratten had gotten the Naturals on the board first in the third with his first home run of the 2011 season. The Missions' Ali Solis hit a homer with one out in the bottom of the same frame to knot the game at one each.
An RBI double by Beamer Weems in the bottom of the sixth extended the Missions lead to 6-3, and they got another pair in the eighth when Blake Tekotte hit his second home run of the year off of Santiago.
Rollins was rolling right along for the Naturals up until the fifth inning. He went 4 2/3, allowing four hits and five runs. He issued five walks and fanned just two in the loss.
Rob Musgrave (1-0) pitched well for the Missions (6-3) in his second Double-A start. He lasted six innings and was charged with the Naturals' three runs. He walked three and fanned five.
Jamie Romak was the lone player with a pair of hits for the Naturals (5-4), who were a dismal 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
Having lost three straight, the Naturals move on to Corpus Christi and will turn to left-hander Edgar Osuna (1-0, 0.00), a 2010 Texas League All-Star selection, to stop the bleeding. He beat the Hooks in his first start of 2011, and he'll once again face Corpus Christi right-hander Kyle Greenwalt (0-1, 6.23). Game time is 2:05 P.M. and it can be heard on KFAY News/Talk 1030.
