Frisco RoughRiders News Release

Tommy Mendonca hit a home run in both games of Saturday's doubleheader to lift the 'Riders to a split of the Cardinals. Frisco won game one 6-4 and fell in the finale 6-5 at Hammons Field in Springfield.

Mendonca's two-run bomb in the third inning of the opener gave the RoughRiders (4-5) a lead that they would not lose. The third baseman clubbed another homer in the third inning of the nightcap, this time driving in three tallies. In all, Mendonca went 3-for-7 with three runs scored on the day.

In the opener, Frisco starter Jake Brigham (1-0) worked five innings for his first career Double-A victory. He surrendered three runs on five hits. The right-hander whiffed four Cardinals.

The hit of distinction came in the fourth as Guilder Rodriguez doubled in a pair of runs to push the 'Riders up 6-3. After trimming the Frisco lead to two, Springfield (4-5) loaded the bases with one out in the seventh and final inning. But Justin Miller induced a pop out and a fly out for his first save of 2011.

Mendonca's blast in game two gave the 'Riders a brief 4-3 advantage that lasted until the fifth. That was when Frisco starter Miguel De Los Santos(0-1) walked all three men he faced before giving way to Ramon Aguero. Aguero allowed all three runs to score.

De Los Santos surrendered just two hits but walked five in the outing, four of which led to runs. All six Springfield tallies were charged to the southpaw.

David Paisano's RBI single in the sixth pulled the 'Riders within one, but Springfield closer Casey Mulligan entered the game and earned a four-out save.

Up next, Frisco travels to North Little Rock for a three-game series with the Arkansas Travelers. Carlos Pimentel is slated to start Sunday's series opener for the RoughRiders against Kyle Hurst. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
