Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release

SPRINGDALE, AR - Rey Navarro will take the place of fellow Naturals Infielder Angel Franco on the North Division side of the 2013 Texas League All-Star Game presented by Castrol this Tuesday at Arvest Ballpark.

Navarro is in his third season with the Naturals. On the year, the 23-year-old switch-hitter from Cauguas, Puerto Rico is batting .272 with 5 Homeruns and 32 RBI while playing mostly second base and third base for Brian Poldberg's streaking crew. He's hit .318 in 110 at-bats in Springdale this season.

Franco was voted to the team as a reserve infielder after hitting .294 with 3 homeruns, three triples, and 20 RBI for the Naturals this season, playing second base, third base, and shortstop. The 23-year-old from Bani in the Dominican Republic has not played since Game 1 of last Thursday's doubleheader versus Springfield. Starting the game at shortstop, Franco singled in the bottom of the first inning, and while on the base paths, injured his ankle rounding third base.

Originally drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 3rd Round of the 2007 MLB June Amarteur Draft out of the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy, Navarro made his professional debut as a 17-year-old. He was acquired by the Royals in 2010 in exchange for RHP Carlos Rosa. Outside of 17 games with AAA-Omaha in 2012, he has been with the Naturals since a mid-season promotion from Wilmington in 2011. Navarro has played 228 with the Naturals and has hit .261 with 9 Homeruns and 89 RBI while playing second base, third base, and shortstop.

This is Navarro's third professional All-Star selection. He was a Mid-Season All-Star in 2009 for the South Bend Silver Hawks in the Midwest League and in 2011 for the Wilmington Blue Rocks in the Carolina League.
