Nationals Slug Five Home Runs in Rout of Keys

FREDERICK, MD- The Potomac Nationals (20-14) combined to hit five home runs in a 14-3 win over the Frederick Keys (14-20) on Thursday night at Nymeo Field. The five home runs were the most Keys pitchers allowed in a game this year.
Rhett Wiseman started the scoring with a leadoff home run in the fourth. Bryan Mejia followed with a walk, and moved to second on a David Masters single. After a sacrifice bunt, back-to-back singles from Blake Perkins and Carter Kieboom made it 3-0 Nationals.
Potomac added another run in the fourth off of Keys starter Jhon Peluffo. Jake Noll hit his fourth home run of the year to lead off the fifth. The Keys answered in the bottom of the fifth on a home run of their own. Wilson Garcia hit his first home run in a Keys uniform to make the score 4-1 P-Nats.
In the sixth, Potomac scored two more runs Masters led off with a walk, and Kieboom was hit by a pitch with two outs. Ian Sagdal followed with a two-run double to left field, making it 6-1.
The Nationals added five more runs in the eighth thanks to three home runs. After a walk to Perkins, Kieboom launched a two-run home run to left field. Two batters later, Noll hit his second home run. Wiseman plated two more runs with his second homer of the game pushing the lead to 11-1.
The Keys scored in the bottom of the eighth. Ryan McKenna reached on a fielder's choice, and Preston Palmeiro singled. Randolph Gassaway then reached on an error that scored McKenna.
Potomac scored three more times in the ninth. Kieboom added two more runs with a single, and Jake Noll followed two batters later with an RBI base hit to make it 14-2. In the bottom of the inning, the Keys scored on a bases loaded walk to McKenna that brought in Garcia.
Peluffo (2-1) took the loss after allowing four runs on eight hits in five innings. Kyle McGowin picked up his first win of the year. The right-hander tossed seven innings and allowed one run on four hits while striking out seven,
The Keys and Nationals continue their series on Friday night. Left-hander Alex Wells (0-3, 4.22) takes the mound for the Keys. He will be opposed by right-hander Wil Crowe (5-0, 2.76) for the Nationals. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., and can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn Radio App.
