Nationals Offense Starts Early to Even Series

FREDERICK, MD - The Potomac Nationals racked up five runs and nine hits in the first three innings to defeat the Frederick Keys 7-1 on Friday night at Nymeo Field. Keys pitching allowed a season-high 16 hits on the game.

In the first, Carter Kieboom singled, moved to second on a walk and scored on a base hit by Jake Noll. Potomac (5-4) then made it a 3-0 game an inning later. Cody Sedlock plunked David Masters to open the inning, while a groundout and a double by Blake Perkins extended the Potomac lead. Three straight singles capped off the inning.

Rhett Wiseman socked an RBI triple in the third to score a runner from first and Masters doubled his teammate home to cap off the last multi-run inning of the night for Potomac. Sedlock (0-1) exited the game after the fourth. Hit with the loss, the former Illinois product surrendered five runs on nine hits.

Frederick (5-4) was limited by Nationals starter Tyler Mapes. Making his second start of the season, the right-hander earned the win tossing five scoreless innings while scattering five hits. Mapes (1-0) walked one and struck out seven.

The Keys lone run of the night came in the seventh. Doubles by Jake Ring and Cole Billingsley got the home team on the board, but the Potomac duo of Gabe Klobosits and James Bourque allowed only one run in four innings.

Frederick and Potomac continue their series on Saturday afternoon. Right-hander Lucas Humpal (0-1, 5.40) starts for the Keys against P-Nats righty Wil Crowe (1-0, 5.40).
