June 5, 2019 - Southern League (SL1) News Release
MARIETTA, GA - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs are proud to announce that Biloxi Shuckers RHP Nate Griep has been named the BC® Relief Pitcher of the Month for May.
Griep, 25, posted a 1-0 record with a spotless 0.00 ERA for the Shuckers in addition to converting all seven of his save opportunities. The Portland, Oregon native made 11 total appearances for Biloxi last month, logging 12.2 innings of work while allowing only two hits and two walks alongside 17 strikeouts. Griep's WHIP (0.32) and opponents' batting average (0.50, 2-for-40) were both the lowest in the league last month for a pitcher who appeared in more than two games.
Nearly halfway through his second season in the Southern League, Griep has made 21 appearances for the Shuckers and converted all 12 of his save opportunities on the way to a 2-1 record with a 1.07 ERA (3 ER/25.1 IP). His 12 saves currently lead the Southern League, while his 21 appearances are tied for the fourth most in the league. In 72 total outings for Biloxi, Griep has amassed a 4-2 record and a 2.63 ERA (24 ER/82.0 IP) with 79 strikeouts and a .203 (60-for-296) opponents' batting average. He was named both a Southern League midseason and postseason All-Star last season.
The Milwaukee Brewers selected Griep in the eighth round of the 2015 MLB Amateur Draft out of Kansas State University.
