Tucson Padres News Release

Andy Gonzalez hit a two-out, two-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Nashville Sounds ahead in their 4-3 win over the Tucson Padres Friday. The Padres had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth, putting runners at the corners with none out, but Daniel Robertson struck out and the Sounds turned an acrobatic 6-4-3 double play on Beamer Weems to end the inning.

The Padres were down two runs in the third inning when Blake Tekotte hit a solo home run and Yasmani Grandal hit an RBI single to tie the game. Tucson went ahead on Sawyer Carroll's RBI single in the sixth and held the lead until the eighth inning. Kip Wells pitched five innings and allowed two runs, neither of which was earned, in his 2012 debut. Anthony Reyes also pitched for the first time this season, and surrendered two runs in 2.2 innings.

Tekotte had his second straight three-hit game and fell a triple shy of the first Tucson Padres cycle. Logan Forsythe went 1-for-4 with a double and a walk and is now hitting .313 on his injury rehab assignment. Brad Boxberger struck out two in the ninth and retired Nashville in order.

Next Game: Saturday, 7:05 pm - Nashville RHP Mike Fiers (1-2, 3.53) vs. Tucson RHP Jorge Reyes (2-5, 4.93). Tucson Padres Military T-Shirt Giveaway, presented by Chase, KOLD News 13 Now and 104.1 The Truth. Game coverage begins at 6:50 pm on Tejano 1600 AM.
