Iowa Cubs News Release

The Nashville Sounds handed the Iowa Cubs their fourth straight loss by a 5-1 score on Monday evening at Principal Park. The Sounds scored three runs in the eighth inning to stretch a close 2-1 advantage to a 5-1 cushion. A Brad Snyder solo homer provided the Cubs' only run. Nashville starter Nick Green (2-2) threw five innings to earn the victory.

Although the Sounds collected eight hits, including four for extra- bases, no Nashville hitter had more than one. Nashville first baseman Joe Koshansky hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning and finished with three RBIs.

Snyder extended his hitting streak to 14 games with his second inning blast. Snyder had the only other extra-base hit of the night for the Cubs - a triple in the sixth - and finished the night 2-for-4.

Iowa shortstop Andres Blanco saw a career-long nine game hitting streak come to an end with an 0-for-3 night.

The Cubs were without Bobby Scales after the Chicago Cubs selected the infielder today. David Macias made his triple-A debut for Iowa with a seventh inning pinch hit appearance after being promoted from single-A Peoria.

The Sounds (13-11) and the I-Cubs (13-10) will meet again Tuesday evening at Principal Park in the second of a four-game series. Mitch Atkins (1-2, 6.99) will take the ball for the I-Cubs and will oppose Nashville right-hander Tim Dillard (4-0, 1.17).
