PCL Names Players of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Pacific Coast League today announced Jesus Guzman of the Fresno Grizzlies has been named PCL Hitter of the Week and Luke Hochevar of the Omaha Royals the PCL Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 27th- May 3rd.
Guzman had a strong week at the plate going 8-for-19 (.421) with four home runs and 13 RBI with two doubles and five runs and helped the Grizzlies finish 4-and-1 for the week. The 24-year old Venezuelan native is coming off a strong winter season where he was named Venezuelan MVP and broke a 35-year old Venezuelan Winter League record for RBI with 67. He spent the 2008 with the Oakland Athletics organization and signed as a Minor League free agent with the San Francisco Giants in December 2008.
A native of Fowler, Colorado, Hochevar was the number one overall pick in the 2006 MLB draft by the Kansas City Royals out of the University of Tennessee. He began the week with 6.0 solid innings against Oklahoma City and allowed four hits, one run (unearned), and struck out seven hitters. He followed that up with a seven-inning complete game shutout in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday against Nashville. Hochevar struck out five and walked two batters to earn his league leading fifth win and lowered his league leading ERA to 1.13 on the season.
