Express Keep Zephyrs Winless At Home

Yormany Ramirez's two-out single in the top of the ninth scored the go-ahead run, and the Round Rock Express downed the New Orleans Zephyrs 5-3 on Monday, sending the Z's to their eighth straight home defeat.

With a runner at third with one out in the ninth, Zephyrs reliever Nate Field struck out former Tulane star Brian Bogusevic, but then walked Marc Saccomanno on a 3-2 pitch, setting the stage for Ramirez. Lou Santangelo followed with another single to extend the lead to two runs.

The Zephyrs twice came back from deficits, erasing an early 2-0 Express lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Andy Gonzalez singled home a run in the fourth, cashing in a leadoff double by Michael Ryan, and John Raynor blasted his second home run of the season to tie the score in the fifth.

Round Rock regained the lead in the sixth after Matt singled with two out, stole second and scored on a base hit by Chad Spann.

The Z's responded in kind in the seventh, on a two-out bunt single by Alejandro De Aza, who stole second and scored on a single by Chris Coghlan.

De Aza's steal was the sixth of the night for New Orleans, tying the team record for most steals in a game, setAugust 23, 2005 at Omaha.

Field (1-1) took the loss, allowing two runs and three hits in one inning. Starter Mike Wood worked five innings, scattering eight hits and yielding two runs.

The Zephyrs and Express resume their four-game series Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. RH Brett Sinkbeil will start for the Z's, opposing RH Yorman Bazardo.
