Nashville SC Announces 3rd Annual Road to Opening Match Day of Service
April 18, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - To commemorate Nashville Soccer Club's third season in Major League Soccer and the opening of GEODIS Park, the largest soccer specific stadium in the U.S. and Canada, the club will partner with the Nashville Tree Foundation to leave a mark in Music City through its Road to Opening Match Day of Service on Saturday, April 30, presented by Delek US.
Alongside the Nashville Tree Foundation, one of Nashville's leading nonprofit organizations supporting environmental sustainability, Nashville SC will provide fans, supporters and members of the community the opportunity to commemorate the opening of GEODIS Park by planting over 60 trees along Brown's Creek Greenway, which borders Fair Park and GEODIS Park.
Fans can sign up to participate here. The event will begin at 9:00 a.m. CT at Fair Park, located at the corner of Bransford Ave. and Craighead St.
The project will provide much-needed restoration to the area, specifically native trees which are needed to mitigate storm water, control erosion and provide wildlife habitat. In addition to the environmental benefits, new trees will serve as a beautification project for the greenway and improve the urban tree canopy.
The Day of Service is part of MLS WORKS Greener Goals initiative and the League's commitment to address its greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint by measuring, reducing and offsetting emissions and raising awareness about environmental issues throughout the soccer community.
The collaboration also showcases Nashville SC's commitment to supporting local sustainability efforts throughout the Nashville region, including Root Nashville-an effort to plant 500,000 trees in Middle Tennessee by year 2050.
Nashville SC and the Nashville Tree Foundation will also celebrate the 150th anniversary of National Arbor Day by giving away 150 additional trees during the event for families and local businesses to take home and plant in surrounding areas. To learn more, visit www.nashvillesc.com/community.
