LA Galaxy News Release
LOS ANGELES - The LA Galaxy are set to begin their 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup campaign by squaring off against San Diego Loyal SC at Dignity Health Sports Park on Tuesday, April 19 (7:30 p.m. PT; ESPN+), before returning to league play to host Nashville SC at Dignity Health Sports Park, in a match presented by Modelo, on Saturday, April 23 (7:30 p.m. PT; Spectrum SportsNet, LAGalaxy.com). The home match against Nashville is trending to become the fourth consecutive sell-out at Dignity Health Sports Park to begin the 2022 campaign.
Dating back to their first U.S. Open Cup match in 1999, the LA Galaxy hold an all-time record of 33-17-0 in the competition and have been crowned champions twice (2001 and 2005). The match between LA and San Diego will mark the first-ever matchup of the two teams. Notably, LA Galaxy legend Landon Donovan is the head coach for San Diego Loyal SC. In the last U.S. Open Cup, held in 2019, the Galaxy defeated Orange County SC in the Fourth Round before being eliminated in the Round of 16 by the Portland Timbers at Providence Park on June 19, 2019.
Saturday's MLS regular-season match between the Galaxy (4-2-1, 13 points) and Nashville SC (3-2-2, 11 points) marks the first-ever meeting between the two teams in league play. LA enters Saturday's match against Nashville riding a three-match unbeaten run (2-0-1) dating back to a 3-1 win over the Portland Timbers on April 3. In three games played at home during the 2022 campaign, the Galaxy hold a 2-1-0 record.
