Inter Miami CF to Face Miami FC in the 2022 U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday

Inter Miami CF is set to play its first Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match in club history when it faces Miami FC in a Third Round fixture in the competition on Tuesday, April 19. Kickoff at FIU Stadium is set for 7 p.m. ET.

Victory and a Clean Sheet in Club's First Visit to Seattle

On Tuesday, Inter Miami will aim to win and advance in the 2022 U.S. Open Cup following its 0-1 win on the road against the 2022 Concacaf Champions League finalist Seattle Sounders in its last fixture. Attacker Robbie Robinson, who earned Heineken Man of the Match honors, scored the team's goal off of DeAndre Yedlin's and Leonardo Campana's first assists with the team. It was Robinson's first goal in 2022.

MLS Team of the Week Honors for Mabika

In addition, center back Aimé Mabika was named as a started in the MLS Team of the Week for week 7 of the 2022 regular season after an outstanding showing in defense to help Inter Miami earn a clean sheet against Seattle on the road.

Inter Miami's First-Ever Appearance in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup

Inter Miami will enter the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in the Third Round of the 2022 edition after finding out that it would face Miami FC on the road during the Third Round draw on April 8.

Being a single-elimination competition, if Inter Miami wins, it advances to the next round, if it falls, it would knock the team out. If the team wins, its opponent, date and venue for its next match would be revealed in the Round of 32 draw set to take place on April 22. The winner of the 2022 U.S. Open Cup earns an automatic spot in the next edition of the Concacaf Champions League, a shiny trophy to put on display and prize money.

What is the U.S. Open Cup?

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is a single-elimination competition that crowns the top fútbol club in the United States in which teams from any division in the country can compete: MLS teams, MLS NEXT Pro teams, USL teams, NPSL teams and even amateur teams.

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup functions similarly to other domestic cups found around the world in different leagues; its equivalent would be the FA Cup in England, the Copa Del Rey in Spain, the Coppa Italia in Italy, and the DFB-Pokal in Germany.

Scouting Miami FC

Miami FC enters the meeting after earning its spot in the Third Round after defeating Miami United 3-0 in the Second Round of the U.S. Open Cup on April 6.

Founded in 2016, Miami FC currently competes in the USL Championship. In the 2022 regular season, the team sits in seventh position out of 14 teams in the Eastern Conference having recorded seven points from two wins, two losses and a draw to date.

Additionally, the match will present a special reunion for Miami FC head coach Anthony Pulis, who was Inter Miami's assistant coach in its first two MLS campaign after being appointed in January 2020.
