York Revolution News Release

Telvin Nash continued his late-season assault on Atlantic League pitching with another home run, sparking a late comeback bid, but the York Revolution fell to the Somerset Patriots 4-3 on Friday night at Santander Stadium. Now 38-29 in the second half, the Revs will look to rebound with the season's final two games at home on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

Somerset struck for an early run in the top of the second on a two-out RBI double to left by Jonny Tucker, grabbing a 1-0 lead. It was the only run allowed by Revs starter Cody Scarpetta through the first five innings, however, as it remained a 1-0 game into the sixth.

Scarpetta (3-6, 2-2) stranded five runners over the first four innings, and worked a 1-2-3 inning with a pair of strikeouts in the fifth, but ran into trouble after recording the first out in the sixth.

David Vidal connected on a solo homer to left-center, his 12th of the year, extending the Patriots lead. Greg Hopkins followed with a triple that rattled out of the left field corner and along the warning track. Nate Spears brought Hopkins across with an RBI single before a walk to Tucker ended Scarpetta's outing. An inherited run would score when Robert Andino singled with two outs, extending Somerset's lead to 4-0.

Patriots starter Mickey Storey was the story of the game early on, retiring his first 10 batters and 16 of his first 17, carrying a no-hitter through 5.1 innings. James Simmons put an end to the no-hit bid with a triple off the right field fence in the bottom of the sixth, before ending the shutout bid when he scored on Eric Patterson's ground out to second.

The Revs made things interesting in the bottom of the seventh. Andres Perez greeted reliever Gus Schlosser with a single to left, setting up Nash's two-run homer on a skyscraping blast that landed beyond the fence in left-center, bringing the Revs within 4-3. York then loaded the bases with two outs against lefty Buddy Boshers, as Nick Ferdinand walked, Salvador Paniagua singled to left-center, and Simmons walked, but Boshers would retire Patterson on a ground out to keep the lead intact.

Connor Little retired the side in order in the eighth, and Andrew Carignan allowed only a one-out walk to Yeicok Calderon in the ninth, recording his fourth save.

The Revs enjoyed another strong effort from the bullpen. Edward Paredes allowed just an inherited run and struck out five of his six batters faced, recording the final two outs of the sixth before striking out the side in order in the seventh. Stephen Penney and Josh Judy each worked scoreless innings out of the York bullpen.

Storey (12-3) allowed just one hit and one run over six innings, pulling into a tie for the league-lead in victories alongside Long Island's John Brownell. The sixth inning run was the first run allowed by Storey over 18.0 innings in his last three starts.

Notes: Nash's homer was his seventh in the last 14 games and sixth in the last nine home games; he has now homered on back-to-back nights. Paredes struck out each of his final four batters, recording all five of his outs on strikeouts. Penney's appearance was his record 219th with York. Paredes made his 131st appearance with the Revs, fourth-most in club history. York falls to 14-6 in one-run games at home, having dropped each of the first two games of the series by one run. The single by Perez in the seventh is his 149th hit of the season, second-most in the league and eighth-most in a season in team history. Going 1-for-2 with a triple, Simmons is now batting .349 with eight extra-base hits over his last 12 games. York lefty Logan Williamson (8-12, 4.04) faces Somerset southpaw Matt Zielinski (8-3, 2.54) on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. It is High School Spirit Night presented by GameTimePA and features Postgame Fireworks presented by Jack Giambalvo Motor Company. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
