
Burres Pitches a Beauty Sending Blue Crabs to Victory

Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
(Bridgeport CT, September 18, 2015)---Southern Maryland followed the script from last night as they scored the first run of the ballgame in the fifth, and then an insurance run in the ninth to pick up the 2-1 victory over the Bridgeport Bluefish.
LHP Brian Burres pitched a gem on the hill, going seven innings, allowing just two hits. Burres was pitching for the first time since he left his start early on September 8th because of forearm tightness. Brian retired the first 13 hitters that he faced, before Andres Rodriguez ripped a single to left with one out in the bottom of the fifth.
Southern Maryland scored the first run of the ballgame in the top of the fifth. Craig Maddox led off with a triple. Jamar Walton was the next scheduled hitter, and he lifted a fly ball to left center allowing Maddox to score on a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.
Brian Burres retired the next six hitters that he faced from the sixth to the seventh innings. RHP Justin Berg came on out of the bullpen, and pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the eighth. Jamar Walton's double in the top of the ninth allowed Craig Maddox to score to bring the score to its' final of 2-0.
RHP Cody Eppley came on and recorded the save in the ninth inning to send the Blue Crabs to their second straight victory. Craig Maddox, Zach Wilson, and Jamar Walton each had two hits in the game for Southern Maryland.
Game three of the series will commence tomorrow evening at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The first pitch is set for 6:05 P.M. LHP Robert Carson (6-3, 3.04) will start for Bridgeport, while RHP Tim Sexton (1-1, 3.38) will toss for the Blue Crabs.
