Chicago Wolves defenseman BOB NARDELLA has announced his retirement from professional hockey.

The 38-year-old blueliner, who was a member of the inaugural Wolves squad in 1994-95, ranks third all-time in franchise history and first among team defensemen with 239 assists and 298 points and second all-time with 553 regular-season games played with the Wolves spanning parts of nine seasons (1994-95, 1997-2004 and 2005-06).

He also ranks third all-time with 44 helpers and 61 points during the playoffs and second with 101 postseason appearances. NARDELLA helped the squad win the 1998 and 2000 Turner Cup Championships and the 2002 Calder Cup Championship.

The 5-foot-8-inch, 170-pound defenseman collected one assist and six penalty minutes in five games with Team Italy during the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, in February. In 1998, NARDELLA briefly left the Wolves to represent Italy at the Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan.

The 14-year pro has played six seasons in Europe, winning Italian League Championships with Alta Badia (1991-92), Alleghe (1992-93) and Milan (2002-03), along with a German Ice Hockey League title with Mannheim (1996-97).
