Naquin, Wendle Undergo Surgery

(AKRON, OH) The Akron RubberDucks announced today outfielder Tyler Naquin and infielder Joey Wendle each underwent surgery yesterday by Cleveland Indians team physician Dr. Thomas Graham at the Cleveland Clinic.

Naquin, 23, suffered a fractured second metacarpal in his right hand after being hit by a pitch on June 27 vs. Harrisburg Senators. A night earlier vs. Harrisburg, Wendle, 24, broke the hamate bone in his right wrist on a foul tip.

Both players will go to the Indians year-round facility in Goodyear, Ariz., to begin their respective rehabilitation. Recovery prognosis is yet to be determined.

At the time of their injuries, Naquin was hitting a team-leading .313 (95-for-305) with 4 HR, 30 RBI and 14 SB in 76 games with the RubberDucks. Wendle was hitting .259 (77-for-297) with a team-leading 8 HR, 45 RBI and 19 2B in 76 games with Akron.
