New York Boulders News Release

Matt Nandin's two-out, two-run single in the top of the ninth led the Boulders to a 4-2 victory over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in the opener of Rockland's 10-game road trip. With the win the Boulders take sole possession of second place.

After a pair of scoreless innings, the Boulders jumped on top in the third when Steve Nyisztor singled, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on Scott Knazek's base hit. Fargo-Moorhead strung together back-to-back doubles to tie the score in the fourth, but otherwise Rockland starter Bo Budkevics was in control.

In the longest outing of his brief professional career, the right-hander worked six strong innings, allowing just the one run on three hits while walking one and striking out six. He would leave the game with the lead as Jerod Edmondson's sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh brought in Donnie Webb to give the visitors a 2-1 edge.

With the game in the hands of the bullpens, the RedHawks drew even with a run off reliever Nick Serino in the seventh, though the lefty was about to work out of a second-and-third, one out situation to keep the game deadlocked.

Fray Martinez would come in to close out the eighth and his teammates would get to work in the ninth. Angel Molina led off with a walk and was erased when Stephen Cardullo reached on a fielders choice. Jaren Matthews followed with a single and Steve Nyisztor was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Knazek would then pop to the infield, but Nandin would put one through the left side to give his team the lead.

Kevin Fuqua worked into some difficulties in the ninth but came through when it counted, closing out the contest against his former team for his 16th save of the season. Martinez picked up his first win as a Boulder, improving to 3-7 overall on the season.

Combined with New Jersey's loss against Newark earlier today, the Boulders now reclaim sole possession of second place by a game in the CanAm standings. The series continues tomorrow in Fargo-Moorhead with first pitch scheduled for 8:02 pm Eastern.
