Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, are pleased to announce that they have made a donation of $1,600 to the American Red Cross, in an attempt to help those affected by recent flooding in the southern part of the country.
On Saturday, March 12th, the Nailers were originally scheduled to host Duck Dynasty Night, which would feature an appearance by Si Robertson, one of the show's stars. Unfortunately, Robertson was unable to make it to that's night game, due to harsh rains and flooding in Louisiana, where he hails from. Si will now be attending the game on Friday, April 1st at 7:35.
Even without Robertson being present, 4,546 fans made their way to WesBanco Arena on March 12th, presenting the Nailers with an opportunity to give back to those affected in that region of the country. With help from the booster club's nightly 50/50 raffle, the team was able to donate $1,600 to the American Red Cross, helping their efforts.
"When we found out that Si was going to be unable to attend our game on March 12th due to the harsh weather, we were very sympathetic to both he and the people of his community in Louisiana," said Nailers Vice President of Business Operations Craig Bommer. "Our organization has a terrific relationship with the American Red Cross, and thanks to the generosity of our fans, we are able to present them with a check, which will ultimately help the people in the south through these challenging times."
The Nailers will play host to the Reading Royals on Friday night at 7:35, for the new Duck Dynasty Night. That evening will also feature Biker Night Presented by Valley Harley Davidson. Wheeling will also be home on Saturday night for a 7:35 game against the Manchester Monarchs, starring the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. The regular season home finale will be Friday, April 8th on Fan Appreciation Night, sponsored by Main Street Bank. One lucky fan will get the chance to shoot for a car, thanks to Whitesides, as the Nailers look to "pack the house" in their March to the Playoffs.
