Washington Mystics News Release
WASHINGTON, DC - In an effort to raise awareness on the issue of gun violence, the Washington Mystics and Everytown for Gun Safety have partnered to host the Wear Orange game on June 5th when the Las Vegas Aces visit Entertainment & Sports Arena. The 1:00 p.m. game will air nationally on ABC. The Mystics Wear Orange game is part of National Wear Orange Weekend (June 4-6) and follows the 7th annual National Gun Violence Awareness Day.
The Mystics have also joined forces with the National Building Museum and are inviting fans to visit the museum's Gun Violence Memorial Project. Upon exiting the Exhibition, fans will have the opportunity to sit down and record a video message about their experience.
Mystics players will wear Wear Orange warm-up shirts and a video featuring Mystics guard Natasha Cloud addressing the importance of supporting efforts to stop gun violence in our communities will be played. Mystics assets such as social media platforms and game day graphics will also reflect the Wear Orange theme. During halftime, the animated Wear Orange video "Blossom" will also air. The short film depicts the journey of a young girl, devastated after her friend is taken by gun violence, and her journey to find hope and inspiration as part of the Wear Orange movement to end gun violence. This film was created by the Academy Award-winning Lion Forge Animation, the nation's leading Black-owned animation studio, in partnership with Everytown for Gun Safety.
The 'W wears orange' t-shirt from Breaking Tee will be available for purchase at the Team Store at Entertainment & Sports Arena.
The Washington Mystics are encouraging fans to continue to support gun violence prevention by supporting two key initiatives: The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2020 and The Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2019.
