Seattle Storm News Release
SEATTLE - Seattle Storm forward Breanna Stewart was named the Kia WNBA Western Conference Player of the Month for May on Wednesday. In the first month of the season, Stewart averaged 22.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game while helping the Storm to an WNBA-best 5-1 record.
Stewart recorded four double-doubles in six games in May including a 36-point, 11-rebound, and 5-block performance against Dallas on May 22. Those 36 points were the most scored in a WNBA game this season and tied for the most in Storm history, behind Lauren Jackson's 47 and her own 38-point rookie year performance.
The 36 in that game-Stewart's 125th career game-also moved her past 2,500 career points, making her the fourth fastest player to reach that threshold. In addition, she became the fastest to achieve 2,500 points and 1,000 rebounds, a record previously held by Jackson.
Stewart also recorded 28 points and 13 rebounds in a season-opening win over Las Vegas (5/15), 26 points and 11 rebounds three nights later against Vegas (5/18) and 17 points and 12 boards in a big win over Connecticut (5/25).
This is the second time Stewart has earned the monthly award, receiving the recognition in July of 2018-the same season she went on to be named WNBA MVP.
