Coach's Corner
Each Week Mystics Head Coach Richie Adubato will give his take on the Mystics upcoming opponents.
On the next 3 games:
on Phoenix Mercury:
First of all Phoenix has an excellent basketball team. They started off slow but added (Kamila) Vodichkova, who was with Seattle last year when they won the championship up front and Penny Taylor who is a premier player and an all-star in this league to go along with (Anna) DeForge and (Diana) Taurasi who are two very good players. They've been playing better basketball in the last five games then earlier in the season. They push the ball hard and they have great perimeter shooting and we have to stop Vodichkova inside.
on the Detroit Shock:
They have a big front line and have out rebounded people most of the year. (Deanna) Nolan has developed into one of the best clutch shooting guards because she rises up so fast and she's hard to stop. They are a very good basketball team.
on the Sacramento Monarchs
They are leading the Western Conference right now because they play great defense and they have great athletes. They swarm you in the full court and they swarm you in the half court. The defense is probably the best in the league. They force turnover after turnover. It makes them very hard to play against. We are going to have to execute our offense to precision if we are going to get the shots that we need to beat them. They are probably the best rebounding team in the league so we are going to have to come strong with a strong intense effort and great aggressiveness on the boards.
Player's Lounge
Alana Beard on the Phoenix Mercury
Phoenix is a great team. They have a great back court. (Anna) DeForge, Penny (Taylor) and (Diana) Taurasi are all great perimeter shooters that can shoot the threes. They are not a good penetrating team but we want to make them put it on the floor but overall they have a good squad that can go inside and out and they have a big lineup.
