June 20, 2005 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
Charlotte Sting News Release

The Charlotte Sting and Women's Sports Foundation have teamed up to bring SuperWomen to Charlotte, a traveling photo exhibit honoring 100 women in 100 sports. The Sting will host a private reception presented by Wachovia and Head & Shoulders on Saturday, June 25, at the Charlotte Coliseum to tip off the SuperWomen exhibit sponsored by Rolex.

WNBA President Donna Orender will serve as the reception's keynote speaker, discussing the importance of female involvement in sports and the benefits that participation in athletics can bring to women. Orender will recognize these extraordinary athletes and their many accomplishments.

The reception will take place from 4:30 - 5:45 p.m. prior to Charlotte's game against New York, which begins at 6 p.m. Tickets for the tipoff event are just $30 and include food, beverage and a game ticket. To purchase a ticket or to obtain further information, please call (704) 424-WNBA by June 22.

The SuperWomen exhibit will be displayed at the Charlotte Coliseum during Sting games from June 25 - July 23 and displays portraits from the book SuperWomen: 100 Women - 100 Sports by Jodi Buren. The exhibit is a testament to the athletic passion and achievement of champion athletes such as Tamika Catchings, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Billie Jean King and Annika Sorenstam. Past exhibit venues have included the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, America West Arena in Phoenix and the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles.

Orender, who was an All-American basketball player at Queens College of New York and played professionally for the New York Stars, New Jersey Gems and Chicago Hustle of the Women's Basketball League (WBL), was hired to succeed Val Ackerman as WNBA President on February 15, 2005. Orender took the reigns of the WNBA as it entered its ninth season following a seventeen-year career with the PGA TOUR where she oversaw worldwide management of PGA TOUR television and production, advertising, brand management and integration. She was also responsible for the PGA TOUR new media and internet business.

Admission to the exhibit throughout the month is included in the cost of a game ticket.
