Sister-to-Sister will be on the concourse at MCI Center on Thursday, September 9th during the Mystics game against the New York Liberty. Fans will also have the opportunity to chat with "Holly Heart," an interactive, talking robot that promotes healthy heart habits. The Sister to Sister-Everyone Has a Heart Foundation, chaired by Mrs. Irene Pollin, was founded to increase awareness about heart disease as the number one killer to women and to encourage healthy lifestyles. It is the only national organization whose focus is on screening women for heart disease.
The Washington Mystics will also collect book for its "Read to Achieve" initiative on Thursday. A voucher for Sunday's game against the Houston Comets will be given for every book donated.
Most Improved Player: What a difference a year makes for Nakia Sanford. Already this season she has set a career high in a number of categories. Against Connecticut on 7/30 she set a career high in minutes with 29 and points with 13. In that game Sanford also had her first career double-double with 13 points and a career high 10 rebounds.
Rookie Report: Alana Beard has proven to be one of the best rookies in the WNBA. Beard had nine consecutive games in double figures. Beard had a career high 27 points at Sacramento on 7/18. She had a near perfect game against Minnesota on July 23rd. Beard was 8-for-9 from the field and 7-for-7 from the line. She's averaging 11.1 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 2.4 asp and 2.00 spg.
2000 Club: Chasity Melvin is 39 points away from scoring her 2,000th career point. Melvin had 1,741 points going into the season and has 198 points this season. Melvin is currently averaging 7.6 ppg.

Mystics players Muriel Page, Alana Beard and Stacey Dales-Schuman along with Wizards players Juan Dixon, Etan Thomas and Gilbert Arenas will take the winners of the "Read to Achieve Back to School with the Wizards and the Mystics Essay
Contest" back to school. The schedule is as follow:

September 9th: Ottavia Fletcher of R.H. Terrell Jr. High School in Washington, D.C. (Beard &Thomas)
September 10th: Katheryn Cunha of Mark Twain Middle School in Alexandria, Virginia (Dales-Schuman & Arenas)
On September 11, 2004, Mystics Alana Beard, Kiesha Brown and Murriel Page will participate in the National Council of Negro Black Women Family Reunion on the National Mall from 2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
