Charlotte Sting Make Roster Moves
September 7, 2004 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
Charlotte Sting News Release
The Charlotte Sting announced several roster moves today, activating rookie guard Jia Perkins and placing guard Mery Andrade on the suspended list.
"Mery has decided to leave the team and return home to Portugal. We appreciate her contributions this season and wish her continued success," said Sting General Manager and Head Coach Trudi Lacey.
Perkins, selected by Charlotte in the third round (35th overall) of the 2004 WNBA Draft, has not yet played in a WNBA game. She signed with the team last month after giving birth to a baby girl on June 4, 2004 and was placed on the injured list on August 31 with a groin strain. While at Texas Tech, Perkins averaged 15.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 115 games. Following her junior year, she earned All-Big 12 First Team and All-Big 12 Tournament Team honors.
Andrade, selected by the Sting in last winter's dispersal draft, will return home to play with the Portuguese National Team. Andrade appeared in 12 games for Charlotte this season, averaging 0.8 points and 0.3 assists per game.
