Billings Mustangs News Release
GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado - The Billings Mustangs (13-21) were swept in a three-game series against the Grand Junction Rockies (17-17) after a 4-2 loss Friday in front of 2,795 at Suplizio Field.
The Mustangs would get on the board first, scoring both of their runs in the top of the first off Wander Cabrera. Zeek White led off the game with a walk, one of his two reaches Friday. He and Nadir Ljatifi were each singled in by Pabel Manzanero. Manzanero went 3-for-4, delivering six hits over the last two days.
That 2-0 Billings lead would hold into the fourth inning before the Rockies got on the board. Niko Decolati hit a two-run home run off Jared Solomon (3-2) to even the game. Solomon went five innings in the start, giving up three runs on four hits and striking out four. It was his second loss in as many appearances.
Grand Junction then claimed a lead they would never relinquish with Hunter Stovall's fifth-inning homer. It was Stovall's third home run of the series and his fifth extra-base hit of that time. He is slugging 1.000 on the season.
The Mustangs offense was never able to get the ball rolling after the first, managing just five hits in the final eight innings of the contest to be swept in the three-game set. Just two days ago, the Mustangs had not surrendered a two-run lead or more in a loss and have now done that in the last two nights.
The Mustangs now head to Orem to take on the Owlz in a four-game series. First pitch on Saturday from Brent Brown Ballpark is set for 7:05 p.m.
