Billings Mustangs News Release
GREAT FALLS, Montana - The Billings Mustangs (1-3) were unable to find a win in two games Wednesday in front of 1,048 at Centene Stadium. The Voyagers (3-2) would pull out late wins in both games, 6-3 and 3-2.
The Voyagers scored in the bottom of the first in game one to make it three consecutive games the Mustangs have surrendered a first-inning run. Ian Dawkins led off with a double and scored on the RBI single of Alex Destino.
The Mustangs then grabbed their only lead of the game in the third when two runs scored on just one hit. Two walks and a hit batter aided the Mustangs who used a Reshard Munroe single and an error to score two runs. Munroe finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the offense.
Five total errors were committed in the game, three by the Mustangs. The third and final error came in the bottom of the sixth in a 2-2 tie which started a four-run frame for the Voyagers. Adam McGinnis hit a three-run homerun, his first of the year, to put the Voyagers ahead before a fielder's choice brought the fourth run of the sixth.
The Mustangs got another run in the seventh on Munroe's third hit of the day, but it would not be enough.
Game two proved to be a pitcher's duel for the first five innings with all of the scoring coming in the sixth and seventh. Mustangs starter Ryan Campbell pitched three, no-hit innings and struck out two. He would not receive a decision.
Jon Stiever was equally impressive on the mound for the Voyagers. Making his pro debut, Stiever struck out six in three innings and did not allow a hit.
Billings struck first with a run in the top of the sixth, just one batter after collecting their first hit of the night. Mariel Bautista singled to score Urwin Juaquin and give them a 1-0 lead.
The Voyagers immediately responded with all three of their runs in the bottom of the sixth, needing just two hits while being aided by two errors. Logan Sowers singled to score two and put the game away for Great Falls.
The Mustangs and Voyagers will finish off their series Thursday at Centene Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
